  This is a Gorgeous Mint condition Vintage open bottom  Corset with  garters, not to be confused with the an all-in-one bra and girdle combination Corset amply named the Merry Widow.

  This Wonderful open bottom Corset was made by Bestform and this model is Caribbean which includes the pantyhose straps not found on most Corsets.

  Corsets were popular in the 1800’s but lost there appeal, as fashion of the early 1900’s dictated a woman to not show her bust or cleavage, in fact a woman was more apt to wear what we today would call a halter top to hide her breasts. But the return of cleavage as fashion in the mid forties gave rise to underwire bras and in the early fifties the corset was reintroduced to Fashion. Bestform , established in 1927, was happy to get on board and one of there introductions was this Caribbean Corset. This type corset was in fashion throughout the remainder of the fifties but the woman’s movement of the sixties, with women bra burning, put the Corset back into hiding. Only since the 80’s has the corset made somewhat of a come back but they are no longer produced by Bestform, who now is mostly into bras and girdles. This type corset is hard to find and a New one at today’s pricing would cost $60 to $80. I believe you will find some listed at Fredericks of Hollywood.

12 ½ inches 32 cm from the top of the eye hook panel to the bottom.

27 inches 69 cm in circumference, unstretched at the waist.

The garters are stretch and adjustable

There are 17 eye hooks spaced ¾ inch 2 cm apart

The bra cups are formed and padded with a chiffon lace overlay

  As with any traditional corset the idea is to shape the figure and push in the stomach while lifting the breasts  This Corset will do this as well as any, plus the added padding of the cups and the pantie hose garters make this a must have if you want to look your best.
